Make Money Online by Starting a WordPress Blog
Let’s get started! You can use this a step-by-step guide or you may skim through this and give it a shot.
First, Setup your Bluehost Account
You need to decide which hosting service you would like to use for your blog. Bluehost provides some of the best hosting services in the market. We highly recommend Bluehost because of their easy to use platform along with their low price of only $3.95 per month. You can get started here!
To start a WordPress blog on Bluehost, we need to need to setup your hosting account. This is where your blog will be housed and what gives you freedom. As opposed to platforms like WordPress.com or Blogger you will have complete control over your blog.
While you do have to pay an initial investment to get your site up and running, you will receive more freedom and flexibility with the content you create.
Once you’re at the Bluehost homepage, click on “get started now”. This will allow you to select your hosting plan.
Select the plan that works best for you. If you are just starting out, I would recommend starting with the basic plan. This saves you money and you will be able to increase your plan as your blog scales.
Create a Domain Name
Creating your domain is one of the most important steps. A domain starts the process of creating your brand, it establishes who you are. The domain you create can be a random noun or it can describe what you do (ex. “Golf.com”). Your domain should be short and easy for your audience to remember.
Once you have chosen a domain name, enter it in to the “new domain” box and select next. Remember, it is important to have a “.com” domain versus a “.tech”, “.co”, etc.
You will then be directed to a screen that actually creates your Bluehost account. You can sign up by filling out the information below or using your Google login.
Upon completion of your account information, you will be directed to a screen that allows to you choose your hosting plan. However, just know that the more hosting you decide to purchase upfront, the cheaper it is per month. Once you choose your plan term, you will find a lot of add-ons that Bluehost recommends. I strongly suggest adding-on Domain Privacy Protection besides that you don’t need any of the other options starting out.
Under that, you can fill out your credit card information. Then, check the box and click Submit.
Setting Up WordPress
After you complete the billing information, Bluehost will take you to your C-Panel. This is where you can manage your hosting subscription. Bluehost will also ask if you would like to install WordPress, click “yes” and Bluehost will walk you through the process.
Once WordPress is downloaded, you will be taken to your WordPress Dashboard. The WordPress Dashboard is where you will go to customize your blog, along with writing posts, adding add-ons, etc.
So, how do I login to WordPress?
Bluehost will send you a confirmation email with your login information. Bluehost will automatically direct you to login in. If they don’t you may go to your admin URL that should look something like “yournewdomain.com/wp-admin” and enter your username and password. Click “Login”.
Congrats! You Have Created Your Blog.
Now that you have completed these steps, you can start to add content and grow your site. The basic key to success when creating a blog, is knowing your audience. You need to understand what your writing about, who your writing for, and what problem you are trying to solve. This topic should be something you are knowledgable and passionate about.
You can create a blog about anything, so follow your gut and start a blog that you are proud of. Remember, you are trying to make money but you should also enjoy the process.
